Lily Collins hopes to succeed through talent, not nepotism | Entertainment

[ad_1]

Lily Collins didn’t want to use her family connections to get a job.

The 33-year-old actress – the daughter of musician Phil Collins and his ex-wife Gilta Wellman – has hit out at the allegations that she is a “nepotism baby” and insisted she is determined to use her talents to succeed, No matter how long it took.

In an interview with French Vogue, she said: “It’s impossible for people to think I’m using a free pass because of my name.

“I’m proud of my dad, but I want to be myself, not just his daughter. For that, I’m ready to wait for a breakthrough.

“Because of casting failures, I learned to focus more on my job, and I managed to make acting my job.

“But I’m not resting on my laurels: the environment is very competitive and places are expensive.”

And the “Emily in Paris” actress has admitted that although she “loves to sing,” she is intentionally staying away from a music career because she doesn’t want to be at a disadvantage compared to her famous father.

She said: “I like to sing. But because I want to go my own way, away from the genius of my parents, I prefer to be an actor.

“I’ve been in a few musicals because that’s the only scene I’ve allowed myself to sing. Honestly, I’m too scared to compare!”

In her 2017 book Unfiltered: No Shame, No Regrets, It’s Just Me, Lily revealed Phil was absent at key moments in her growing up, but claimed she forgave him for “not being a father” [she] expected”.

She wrote: “I forgive you for not always being there for me in my time of need and not being the father I expected. I forgive you for making mistakes. While it may seem too late, it is not. Still There’s a lot of time to move forward.”

The “Loving Rosie” star also revealed that she has learned how to “accept” what her father sees as a failure as a parent.

She wrote: “We all make choices and while I don’t forgive some of you, at the end of the day we cannot rewrite the past.

“I’m learning how to accept your actions and say how they make me feel. I accept and respect the sadness and anger I feel about what you did or didn’t do, what you did or didn’t give me.”
