Emma Raducanu will play her first game in over two months this afternoon – having already started training with her fifth new coach in Abu Dhabi.

Her latest pick is Sebastian Sachs – a 30-year-old German who has worked with a number of top players including former world number one Victoria Azarenka.

The 2021 US Open champion will play a one-off exhibition match against Wimbledon finalist Anse Gabor at the Mubadala Championship in Abu Dhabi.

It will be the 20-year-old’s first appearance since wrapping up her first tour season, when a wrist injury forced her to withdraw from her final two events – Transylvania Open and the Billie Jean Cup final in Glasgow.

The world No. 76 has had time to reflect on her first year on tour since October, saying she doesn’t think “next year will be smooth sailing”.

The 20-year-old told reporters in Dubai: “I’ve been training for two months in fitness and I’m looking forward to seeing how this will take me into 2023.

“In tennis, I’ve had two months out of touch with a racket because of a wrist injury, and now it’s about building the back for me. In the last season, I had a huge challenge keeping my body fit, but that’s a big goal for me. 2023. My main goal for next season is to stay on the court, stay healthy for longer and be able to give myself the best chance I can every game.”

“My goal is to start over and try to learn from last year’s lessons. I’ll be more prepared and have a better idea of what to expect each game.”

Radukanu has been plagued by various injuries in 2022, and he has withdrawn four times. Her first official match of 2023 will be at the ASB Women’s Classic in Auckland on Jan. 2.

The players will be on the pitch after 4pm and we’ll be giving you game-by-game updates along with any post-match reactions throughout.
