Three Lorain entertainers were recognized at the 2022 Ohio Entertainment Awards.
The Northeast Ohio Awards celebrated its 10th year on November 13 at the Kent Stage in Kent.
Jeff Seats of Lorain County won Best Chef, Kimyatta Hawthorne of Lorain won Best Hairstylist and Andre Massey of Lorain won the Contribution Award.
“I was surprised because there were so many great stylists nominated,” Hawthorne said. “It feels great to always have support from my city; I’m proud to be from Lorain.”
Hawthorne said she will continue to do her best for Lorain County.
“I love what I do and am blessed to be able to inspire others from the same community as me,” she said. “I will always encourage them to never give up, to keep learning and pushing themselves.”
Messi said he was delighted to win the award.
“I’ve been nominated for Best Promoter and Graphic Designer twice in the past, but I didn’t win in those years,” he said. “I got the dedication award because I’ve been in showbiz for over 20 years.”
Schitz said he is grateful for the community’s support.
“When the show originally polled each category, they told me a lot of people recommended me, which led to my official nomination,” he said. “I am very excited to participate, and it is also a surprise to win the award.”
He said it was a blessing to be recognized.
“Winning this award is surreal to me,” Schitz said. “I’ve been doing what I do for a long time; it’s validation that I’m doing what I’m supposed to be doing and that my community recognizes my passion and hard work.”
To honor those who nominated and voted for him, Seats will hold a community celebration at The Tabernacle Lorain, 2428 Elyria Avenue, on November 29th from 6pm to 8pm.
The event will feature free food from Seats as well as other local caterers such as Dashonda’s Dishes, Shanese’s Soul-llios and more, Yvonne’s Classie Cakes and Toni’s Belly Sensations.
“I wouldn’t have won if it wasn’t for my employees, so it’s a way of showing customer appreciation,” Seats said. “We’ll have food, music and photo opportunities.”
Massey said his own show, Ohio’s Most Wanted, will be held Jan. 7 in Lorain.
“It feels really good to be nominated, but I just did it to bring more attention to the city of Lorraine,” Massey said. “I’d like to see the entertainment industry here come together as a collective effort because there may be too much competition within our own city.”
