Paramount, Calif. (KABC) — Los Angeles King Iceland, formerly known as Paramount Iceland, is officially open to the public.
The ice rink was home to the first Zamboni machine, an ice resurfacing machine.
It’s been around for eight years, becoming a staple of the Paramount community.
“Frank Zamboni and his brother Lawrence opened the facility without a roof, they spent nine years shoveling snow off the rink, and finally Frank Zamboni got tired of doing it, so he Invented the ‘A’ Zamboni model,” said Brad Berman, president of American Sports & Entertainment.
Due to COVID-19 restrictions, the building has been closed for years and is only open to private events.
The Los Angeles Kings and American Sports & Entertainment announced they purchased the building for the community in June.
Now that the monolithic ice facility has been refurbished, some members of the Zamboni family are there to view the finished product.
“For the Kings, helping all the rinks in the Los Angeles community continue to be open and accessible to the community, kids who play hockey, or families who just want to skate, is a core value of our organization that wants to serve our community,” said Los Angeles Kings chief Operations Officer Kelly Cheesman said.
The upgrade took months and cost about $1 million.
“Everything has been replaced, upgraded and remodeled from the roof, the floor, the ice, the dashboard, the skates,” Berman said.
Inside the facility, there is a Zamboni Museum in memory of the late Frank J. Zamboni.
You’ll also find the Wurlitzer Organ, the only organ currently played regularly on any ice rink in the country

The facility is now open to the public. There’s a two-for-one deal on Friday night where you can bring a friend for the price of one.
