Madison Beer is ‘very scared’ about admitting to having borderline personality disorder (BPD).
The 23-year-old singer announced she was diagnosed with BPD in 2020 – which affects a person’s ability to regulate emotions – which Madison admitted was a “daunting” experience.
She told the BBC: “I was really scared to open up because in the past whenever I opened up to social media or the public it was always made fun of.
“But now that it’s a part of me, I’m really grateful that I pushed myself to open up in this way.
“I think I have a story worth telling, and I have a lot of growth that I’d love to share.”
Madison previously admitted that her diagnosis made her feel suicidal.
The singer – who released her debut studio album “Life Support” in 2021 – feels she now knows herself better after going public with her illness.
Madison – who has previously dated Brooklyn Beckham – shared: “I haven’t really spoken out about a lot of things. [I was going through], but I was diagnosed with borderline personality disorder. At one point I wanted to commit suicide. I’m going through a really tough time and I feel like making a breakup album in the midst of going through something so real is making myself stupid in a way that I don’t want to do.
“[But] Once I was diagnosed and in therapy 3 times a week, I learned more about my emotions and figured out how to stay steady. I am able to write better and understand myself better. So I can write the story the way I want. “
