Haas’ Kevin Magnussen has confirmed that he will join his father and former Formula 1 driver Jan at the Gulf 12 Hours in December at MDK Motorsport in Abu Dhabi.
Jan is a four-time Le Mans class winner for the Corvette – his last victory was in 2009 – and further success came at Daytona in 2015.
The 49-year-old is a two-time IMSA winner, a series that Kevin participated in when he left F1 last season.
Kevin rejoined the Haas team this season, partnering with Mick Schumacher, who scored in five races to help the U.S. sit eighth in the constructors’ standings.
The two Haas drivers still have their sights set on trying to replace a revived Aston Martin for seventh place in the championship, before Kevin joins his dad at the Yas Marina Circuit.
Team boss Mark Kvamme will join them and will drive a Ferrari powered by AF Corse.
Kevin has dabbled in enduro before, finishing 17th Join Jan and GT2 European Series Pro-Am champion Anders Fjordbach in the LMP2 class with High Class Racing in 2021.
The Haas driver revealed that plans for the December race were hatched during the Miami Grand Prix weekend in May.
“Mark and I met at the Miami Grand Prix weekend and somehow the idea of racing together in Abu Dhabi came up,” Kevin said, quoting gulf12hours.com.
“We called my dad – the team has been set up. MDK Motorsports is driven by passionate and professional racers who I love to work with. I am looking forward to seeing what we can achieve together.
“Of course, I’m also very grateful for the opportunity to drive with my dad again – and hopefully even win a race.”
The competition will take place on Sunday, December 11th.
