MAGRABi, a leading optics retailer in the Middle East, has launched the Lens Innovation Center (LIC), the largest and most efficient ophthalmic lens manufacturer in the region, producing 2 million lenses per year.
MAGRABi will invest a total of AED 54 million (US$ 15 million) in the development of the LIC by 2025, as well as collaborating with Hoya and Seiko Optical on lens design and supply of high-quality materials, strengthening its leadership in innovation and technology.
LIC strengthens MAGRABi’s position as the leading eyewear retailer in the Middle East, creating 90 jobs by 2025. Opening in January 2022, LIC will serve MAGRABi’s premium brands, as well as the company’s mainstream brand, Doctor M.
Advanced Laboratory
The center is a state-of-the-art laboratory in the Middle East, in partnership with Schneider Optics, a leading manufacturer of state-of-the-art ophthalmic lens machinery and equipment. The facility is currently producing 1 million lenses per year and operates 24/7. This number is expected to double to 2 million shots per year by 2025.
MAGRABi’s LIC is the only lens manufacturing facility in the region to use Schneider’s Modulo Line technology, enabling the center to operate at the highest level of efficiency ever seen in the Middle East. The advantage of the modular production line is that it has a wide range, reduces costs, improves overall efficiency and production capacity, and reaches the world’s leading level.
The next generation of technology consists of a series of cognitive machines, built-in quality control and intelligent systems. By leveraging advanced intelligent learning, the technology monitors the production process, identifies errors in the production process, and creates various production data that the modular production line automatically responds to.
Global expansion
Amin Magrabi, CEO of MAGRABi Group, commented: “As the leading high-end eyewear retailer in the Middle East and the only chain operating throughout the Middle East, the next stage in MAGRABi’s journey is to expand internationally and serve other markets. In exploring this Prior to the option, we were focused on strengthening our position in the Middle East and ensuring we were well prepared for expansion.
“We want MAGRABi to dominate the entire vertical chain in the region to ensure we are ready to disrupt the global optics market, and we will continue to invest heavily to achieve this ambition. However, our most valuable investment remains our talented team of employees, We are proud to have some of the most experienced managers, engineers, technicians and machine operators.”
The company’s strategic focus is to strengthen its position as the leading eyewear retailer in the Middle East before exploring international expansion. LIC is an important step in this journey as the company moves to take control of the entire optics value chain, and an important milestone in exploring other markets. — arab trade news agency
