Major omission from UAE name T20 World Cup squad

[ad_1]

The UAE named their 15-man squad for the ICC Men’s T20 World Cup as their most-capped player and the absence of Rohan Mustafa was a major talking point.

Mustafa has not been selected for the 2022 UAE ICC Men’s T20 World Cup squad which will be led by CP Rizwan. The 33-year-old also played for the United Arab Emirates last month before being knocked out of the Asian Cup qualifiers in Oman.

Dr Tayeb Kamali, Chairman of the Emirates Cricket Selection Committee, said qualifying for the tournament is an important milestone for UAE cricket.

“Qualification to play against the world’s top national teams at the ICC Men’s T20 World Cup marks a milestone in UAE cricket’s growing strength in the T20 format. Our hearts go out to all those who have invested time and effort as we make it happen. Thank you for a unique moment in UAE cricket history.

“We wish our teams the best as they continue to make their mark on international cricket at the ICC T20 World Cup.”

Cricket director and UAE head coach Robin Singh also expressed his excitement about hosting the tournament in Australia

“This team has a lot of experience and young representatives. It must be stressed that the youngsters of UAE cricket continue to show their worth in various successful ICC and Asian cricket (age groups) sports and it is now their Time to show the world of cricket these proven talents alongside those (selected) experienced players.

“It is very proud to represent your country, our (coaching) team has full confidence in the maturity and skill of this group of players and we hope their performance will surprise some teams.”

From September 25, the UAE will play Bangladesh cricket in two T20I series matches. They belong to Group A of the T20 World Cup and will face the Netherlands on October 16 in Australia. Sri Lanka and Namibia are the other two teams in their group.
