Man regains sight after UAE doctors remove eye tumor without incision

[ad_1]

Tawam’s neurosurgical team, led by Dr Mohammad Al Asha, Consultant Neurosurgeon, Skull Base and Neurology at the hospital, performed the resection after the patient showed progressive bulging eyes and early signs of visual deterioration. His scans showed a hemorrhagic lesion in the orbit, stuck to his optic nerve, which often required an extensive and dangerous orbital surgical incision to remove the tumor.

“The situation is complicated because the lesion is glued to the patient’s optic nerve and inside the cone formed by the muscles surrounding the eyeball … We managed to isolate the eye muscles preoperatively using special sutures tied to the individual muscles, identifying the individual muscles and Using a purely endoscopic approach through the nose to plan the surgical approach through the narrow passage between the eye muscles. With our success, we are delighted that the patient’s eyes have returned to their normal position and his vision is improving a few weeks postoperatively I made a full recovery. I am very proud of the team that performed the surgery. There are only a few centers in the world that offer this service,” said Dr Al Asha.

Saeed Jaber Al Kuwaiti, CEO of Seha Group, said: “At Seha, we are proud of our strong healthcare ecosystem and talented world-class healthcare professionals. The successful surgery is a testament to our efforts to provide a niche healthcare system , enabling people to live longer, healthier and more fulfilling lives. We will continue to elevate the UAE’s healthcare sector and strengthen its position as a global hub for health and wellbeing.”

“First of all, I can’t thank the doctor enough. I was very worried about my diagnosis and my vision was deteriorating. The thought of surgery was very scary. When the doctor at Tawam Hospital offered me the minimally invasive endoscopy option, I felt Very relieved. I never thought I would make a full recovery, or that I could see things normally again. My deepest gratitude to the entire team at Tawam Hospital,” said the patient.
