UAE companies expedite process to hire Emiratis to meet Emiratization goals announced by Ministry of Human Resources and Emiratization (MoHRE)

The ministry has made it mandatory for companies with more than 50 employees to increase their emiratization quota to 2 percent of skilled jobs by the end of 2022. The private sector target has been doubled to 4% by the end of 2023. Companies that fail to hire the required number of Emiratis will have to pay a fine of Dh6,000 per month.

Both public and private sector entities have stepped up their emiratization processes to avoid fines and penalties.

Beginning January 1, 2023, MoHRE will start imposing fines on companies that fail to meet the Emiratisation target.

Thumbay Group said it has hired 23 UAE nationals to its workforce and hopes to further strengthen the UAE’s workforce.

New Emirati staff are assigned to customer service, academic affairs, student admissions, laboratories and strategic management.

The healthcare company said applications are further open to Emiratis with relevant experience who are seeking to play a role in the fields of health, wellness and medical education.

Dr Thumbay Moideen, founder and president of Thumbay Group, said the company aims to empower and support skilled Emiratis to build career paths in their diverse businesses.

“We plan to welcome a growing number of talented Emirati employees as we work together to promote and nurture the country’s thriving knowledge economy – for the benefit of all those who call the UAE home,” he said.

Dr Moideen added that the group has taken several measures to encourage employees to adapt to work faster by providing them with all the required tools and training as well as improving productivity. “We look forward to having more UAE representatives in the coming days,” he added.

Recruitment firms say demand and wages for young Emiratis are growing exponentially due to the heavy push towards Emiratis.

Emirates Global Aluminum said on Monday it would recruit more than 220 UAE nationals in 2022, including 100 women, with an average age of 23.

By the end of 2022, the emirates rate will be 42%. Nearly 1,200 UAE nationals work at EGA, over 700 of whom are under the age of 35.

The aluminum giant said about 146 of the 2022 hires took part in its national training program, which prepares high school graduates for technical positions in the company’s industrial facilities and administration. During the year, EGA also recruited 43 postgraduate interns.

While recruiting mid-career specialists, the company focuses on attracting and developing young people who are starting their careers as future talent.

Emirates Global plans to create 500 additional opportunities for UAE nationals by 2026, bringing Emiratisation levels to 45%.

“We will continue to focus on Emiratisation to secure the strong talent we need for the future and create opportunities for young Emirati nationals in our country’s industrial sector. We are particularly focused on recruiting and developing women, as diverse organizations perform better,” said Emirates Global Aluminum CEO Abdulnasser Bin Kalban said.

Emirates NBD, Dubai’s largest bank, said it was investing heavily in upskilling, reskilling and developing Emiratis through globally recognized training and development programmes. The bank is currently recruiting Emiratis for a digital and advanced analytics role.

Currently, about 70 percent of the bank’s senior management is made up of Emirati.
