Louisiana artist Marc Broussard’s new album, “SOS 4: Blues For Your Soul,” will have a Wednesday performance Friday at the Manship Theater in Baton Rouge.
Additionally, Broussard is scheduled to perform at GatesFest in Metairie on April 2 and Louisiana Veterans Day in Slidell on May 20.
It’s the latest in Broussard’s ongoing charity (Save Our Soul) album series, from his indie Keeping the Blues Alive Records. A portion of proceeds will go to the Keeping the Blues Alive Foundation to support youth recovery through music.
On this album, the Carencro native with a penchant for classic R&B, rock and soul collaborates with blues icon Joe Bonamassa, who co-produced the record with Josh Smith. The dozen or so tracks include blues and soul classics and a Broussard original tune, “When Will I Let Her Go.” Bonamassa also provides masterful guitar solos on four tracks.
“Bruce is something that’s in my wheelhouse, but it’s not my area of ​​expertise,” Broussard said.
With the decision to focus on the blues in “SOS 4,” Bonamassa immediately comes to mind.
“I couldn’t think of anyone better. I reached out to Joe directly and he accepted. Simple as that,” he said. “We went into the studio and it worked immediately.”
Hear other special guests on the album, including Roddie Romero, Bobby Junior, JJ Grey, Eric Krasno and Calvin Turner.
“Each of these 12 tracks speaks to the deepest part of the soul, whether it’s Son House’s ‘Empire State Express’, Johnny ‘Guitar’ Watson’s ‘Cuttin’ In, or Bobby Blue Bland’s ‘I’ve Got to Use My Imagination’ Howlin’ Wolf’s ‘I Asked for Water’ and ‘When Will I Let Her Go,'” the release added.
“This album seems to be the culmination of a process that I started after I became independent,” says Broussard. “It’s based on believing in myself and my musicians and the music I make. I couldn’t be more excited.”
