Mariah Carey’s life has “more layers” than people think.
The 52-year-old singer, who is making a TV series based on her memoir, believes her path to superstardom has been more complicated than people think.
Mariah – who released her memoir “The Meaning of Mariah Carey” in 2020 – shared: “My life actually has more layers than people know or what is written in the book.
“People who have been my friends for years are like, ‘How come you never tell me this is happening to you?’ At this point in my life, the most important thing is to do what I really want to do.”
Maria also wrote a children’s book called “A Christmas Princess”.
The story centers on a young girl named little Maria, a character the chart-topping star likens to “Pippi Longstocking” or “Harriet the Spy.”
She told W Magazine: “Little Maria was a biracial girl with no money and no one to do her hair. She was like Pippi Longstocking or Harriet the Spy, but she was biracial.
“A lot of my real fans feel like ‘alternative’, whether they’re white, black, brown, whatever — you know, any race, creed or color. If you feel ‘alternative,’ it’s just another One thing.”
Meanwhile, Mariah has previously admitted that she feels pressured to decide whether she is black or white.
The “Forever My Baby” producer explained that people want her to make choices about who she is.
“I’ve always thought it should be okay to say I’m biracial, like that, but people want you to choose,” she said.
