Emirates’ experience and proven track record in climate action will help set realistic targets

A senior minister said the UAE has been working to identify implementable and pragmatic solutions to climate change.

The two-week United Nations Climate Change Conference (COP27) is taking place in Sharm el-Sheikh, Egypt, and is attended by the UAE with a high-level delegation.

Mariam bint Mohammed Almheiri, Minister of Climate Change and Environment, noted that the UAE’s experience and solid track record in climate action will help set realistic targets.

“As the world convenes at COP27 to find implementable solutions to combat climate change, the UAE’s experience and track record will be a guiding force to help shape an actionable climate action agenda. The UAE will be No. 1 in the MENA region A country that has developed a national net zero pathway. This represents a pragmatic and important step towards mobilizing efforts across the country and building on the 2050 Net Zero strategic initiative. We look forward to demonstrating what we have achieved in Sharm El Sheikh approach and expertise in a net-zero world,” said Almheiri.

The UAE will also reaffirm the role of youth and women in building a global consensus on climate action.

Shama bint Sohail Faris Al Mazroui, Minister of State for Youth, said: “The UAE has established a model for young people to become leaders and champions of sustainable development and encourages them to actively participate in shaping The path to net zero.”

Meanwhile, more than 1,000 youth from more than 140 countries wrapped up the three-day Youth Climate Change Conference (COY17) ahead of the official opening of COP27.
