Maritime safety conference enhances seafarers’ well-being

Under the auspices of the UAE Ministry of Energy and Infrastructure, Samsung Group will host its fourth annual “Safety at Sea” conference in Dubai on 22 November 2022.

In addition to seafarers, senior government officials, prominent leaders of the regional maritime industry, and representatives of numerous maritime organizations will participate in the event.

The conference, initiated by Samsung Maritime Logistics, will continue to draw industry and global attention to the importance of maritime workers’ well-being, such as their physical and mental health.

The inaugural Congress was held in Dubai on November 10, 2019, with over 150 decision makers and senior officials from the maritime industry in attendance and over 500 seafarers watching remotely.

Scheduled to take place from 10:30am to 6:00pm (GST), the meeting will be broadcast live from crew centres in Mumbai, India and Manila, Philippines, and will also be available online thereafter.

Safety at Sea will provide a platform for seafarers to highlight the challenges they face and speak up about the support they need. This includes the best in healthcare, maritime education and training to enhance their professional competencies, and the identification and removal of physical and social barriers through effective collaboration between the public and private sectors. It also promotes the idea of ​​empowering “Our Blues”, which aims to increase the influence of qualified seafarers in the industry and inspire the younger generation.

Eugene Mayne, founder and CEO of Samsung Group, emphasized: “Seafarers are the backbone of the maritime industry, connecting the world through the ocean. They are away from their families for long periods of time and face work-life balance issues due to limited social activities and loneliness.”
