Masdar bids lowest at 1.62154 cents/kWh for world’s largest solar park in Dubai

Saeed Mohammed Al Tayer, CEO of DEWA said: “DEWA broke its own record and achieved the lowest price for a photovoltaic solar project based on the IPP model in the Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum Solar Park.”

DEWA revealed that the selected bidders will be announced in the third quarter of this year. The sixth phase of this massive project is scheduled to begin commercial operations in the fourth quarter of 2024.

In the initial phase of the tender, DEWA selected 23 bidders. The fifth phase of the 5 GW Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum Solar Park, with an installed capacity of 900 MW, is currently under construction.

As of the end of October last year, the facility had completed 1.83 GW of operational capacity. The first phase will be 13 MW, the second phase will be 200 MW and the third phase will be 800 MW. This phase has parts IV and V of the project, which are currently under development.

The park is expected to have an installed capacity of 5,000 megawatts by 2030, after which the solar park will help offset more than 6.5 million tons of carbon emissions annually.

Dubai is setting an ambitious goal to meet all of its electricity needs from clean energy by 2050. Additionally, the UAE plans to invest AED600 billion in clean energy projects as part of its 2050 Net Zero Emissions Strategy. In addition, it is developing the world’s largest solar power plant with an installed capacity of 2 GW in the Al Dhafra area of ​​Abu Dhabi.
