Mathrubhumi marks World Press Day with ‘sacred truth’

Mathrubhumi will mark World News Day with a one-day event called Sacred Facts, which will be divided into three sessions, hosting media experts and owners to discuss the way forward for reliable journalists in the era of disruption. The ‘Media In A Post – Truth World’ event organised as part of Mathrubhumi’s centenary celebrations will be held on September 28 at the Uday Palace Convention Centre, Kowdiar Gardens, Thiruvananthapuram.

The opening ceremony will be held from 10 am to 11 am. Devika Shreyams Kumar, Vice President of Operations at Mathrubhumi, will deliver a welcome speech. Mathrubhumi Managing Director MV Shreyams Kumar will moderate the event. N Ram, former editor-in-chief of The Hindu, will moderate the event.

Section 1– A Fact Punch focusing on “Curatorial Media and Its Challenges” (language – English) will be held from 11:00 am to 12:45 pm. Varghese K George, Editor-in-Residence, The Hindu, Delhi will serve as moderator. The keynote will be delivered by Arun Shourie, former editor of Indian Express. Other speakers included Times of India (Tamil Nadu) resident editor Arun Ram, former Outlook editor Ruben Banerjee, senior reporter Seema Chisti and Frontline editor Vaishna Roy.

chapter 2 An anti-media discussion on “Narratives, Reporting Mistakes and Self-Criticism” (Language – Malayalam) will be held from 1.45pm to 3.15pm. Ullekh NP, Executive Editor of Open Magazine, will be the moderator. The keynote will be delivered by Rajdeep Sardesai, Consulting Editor of India Today TV. Other speakers included senior journalist Hari S Kartha, Madhyamam editor VM Ibraheem, social media activist Kiran Thomas, Asianet News and Adv Group editorial advisor MG Radhakrishnan. Sebastian Paul, media critic.

Section 3 – The way forward, discussing “Is fact-based journalism a winning proposition?” (Language – English) will be held from 3.45pm to 05.15pm. Moderator: Mayura Shreyams Kumar, Digital Business Director, Mathrubhumi. Keynote: Anant Goenka, Executive Director, Indian Express. Other speakers: Avinash Pandey, CEO of ABP Network, Dhanya Rajendran, Editor-in-Chief of The News Minute, Jency Jacob, Executive Editor of BOOM LIVE, John Brittas MP, MD, Kairali TV, B Srinivasan, Managing Director of Ananda Vikatan.

There will also be interactive sessions at the end of each session.
