‘Stranger Things’ star Matthew Modine has vowed to protect Millie Bobby Brown from “destructive” forces in Hollywood.

The 63-year-old actor, who plays Dr. Brenner/Dad on Netflix’s hit series, admits he’s always been protective of his young co-star and is determined to do whatever it takes to ensure she stays “safe” and understands that in the entertainment industry Working trap.

During an appearance on “The Jonathan Ross Show,” he explained: “What she was exposed to — and what all the kids on this show were exposed to — was a kind of fame, popularity, and notoriety that used to exist in the entertainment industry. .

“In my career, the lives of young actors have been ruined by that kind of fame and money and everything. It can be very damaging and disorienting.”

He went on to insist that he would do his best to care for the 18-year-old while her career took off, adding: “I just want to do what I can to keep her safe and she understands that careers are a roller coaster, it’s a roller coaster. There are ups and downs.”

In an interview with the show, Matthew also revealed that he’s had some weird experiences with fans who seem to be enamored of his character. Speaking of his encounters with fans, he told the showrunners: “They’d say: ‘I love you, Daddy, would you like to go?'”

He also shared the influences behind the characters’ costumes, revealing that they were inspired by Cary Grant’s costume in the 1959 Hitchcock thriller North by Northwest.

Matthew explained: “Japanese anime characters, bad guys, they have gray hair. I thought that might be really cool. He should be wearing work boots and jeans and a plaid shirt, and I said, ‘Isn’t that? How nice would it be to dress like Cary Grant in North by Northwest?’”

The Jonathan Ross Show airs on ITV on Saturday 19 November at 10:10pm.
