MBDA opens missile engineering center in Abu Dhabi

MBDA announced that it has opened a new missile facility in the UAE. The Missile Engineering Center was officially inaugurated on 6 June in the presence of Tareq Al Hosani, Secretary General of the Tawazun Council, M. Nicolas Niemtchinow, French Ambassador to the UAE, and M. Eric Béranger, MBDA CEO.

The purpose of the Missile Engineering Center is to strengthen the long-term partnership between the UAE and MBDA and lay the groundwork for the joint development of missile systems.

The ultimate goal of this collaboration is to deliver missile systems with an appropriate level of performance while leveraging and enhancing the sovereign capabilities of the UAE defense industry through significant local content.

The UAE’s Missile Engineering Center is the first MBDA missile engineering center outside of Europe; it operates with a joint team of engineers from Tawazun Technology Innovation and MBDA, working on the next generation of smart weapon families.

Hosani said: “I am delighted to witness the official inauguration of the UAE Missile Engineering Center which marks a major milestone in our partnership with MBDA. The Center represents our commitment to supporting the UAE defense industry. The Missile Engineering Center is part of the Tawazun Council A testament to the successful cooperation with MBDA, it symbolizes our shared vision of long-term cooperation and mutual development in the region. Our Tawazun Committee aims to develop advanced missile systems that meet our country’s specific requirements, while promoting local content and knowledge transfer.”

Béranger, CEO of MBDA, said: “This inauguration is an important milestone for us at MBDA and speaks to the importance of our local presence and working with our partners, Tawazun Council.
