Fort Worth, TX – The new data highlights an ongoing strategy that Bike Doctor is developing in the Fort Worth Recreation District.
Thousands of people spend a good night on Fort Worth’s West 7th block every weekend, but having so many people — and alcohol often involved — can lead to an increase in emergencies.
“At 1 and 2 in the morning, it’s hard to get the ambulance down,” explains MedStar’s Matt Zavadsky. “Seriously, even police cars, that’s why you see police stations here on bikes.”
MedStar has been working on a partnership with Fort Worth PD since 2018. It brings healthcare to the entertainment district in the form of bicycles.
“They’ll send us to answer calls from here,” Zawaski said.
MedStar said it usually responds to multiple medical calls in the area on weekend nights, but usually does not require an ambulance.
“Frankly, it takes up a lot of ambulances from patients who are often treated and discharged from the scene,” Zawaski said.
MedStar says it’s equipped like an ambulance, even on a bike.

“Oxygen, equipment for breathing therapy,” Zawaski said.
New figures show they have treated about 500 patients since 2018.
“Again, that’s 500 ambulance calls that we don’t have to respond to immediately. We’re at the scene doing an assessment to decide if an ambulance is needed,” Zawadski added. “More than half of the patients we saw here on Friday and Saturday night, we were able to treat and release them at the scene without requiring them to go to the hospital.”
This frees up resources for more serious calls while building relationships locally.
“It’s also a faster response for people who need medical care,” Zavadsky said.
