Meghan Markle shared in her Netflix documentary series that a crew member was the first to “acknowledge her sacrifice” when she resigned from senior royal duties and left the UK in 2020, Meghan Markle has been branded ‘tone-deaf’.
The Duchess of Sussex and husband Prince Harry opened up about their ‘freedom flight’ to Canada in early 2020 after announcing their decision to step down from royal duties in the fifth episode of their blockbuster Netflix documentary, Harry and Meghan.
Sharing how she had to board a flight to Canada alone because Harry stayed to negotiate the terms of their departure from the royal family, Meghan told the audience that the cabin crew were the first to thank her for her “sacrifice”.
“He took his hat off and I just remember looking at him…and he said, ‘We thank you for everything you’ve done for our country’. It was the first time I felt someone saw the sacrifice. Not for my own country , but for the country. It’s not mine,” Meghan said.
The comment angered royal fans and fanatics, many of whom called Meghan “deaf and insensitive” and pointed to the real “sacrifice” made by servicemen fighting for their country.
One user wrote: “Meghan Markle said the crew thanked her for her service to the UK. I will tell you what the sacrifice and service is for the ladies. Military men and women who were shot and blown up in service of their country. That’s what it really is sacrifice.”
Another user sarcastically echoed, “Meghan Markle wants to be thanked for ‘her service'” while another wrote, “Markle says crew thanked her for serving UK on flight back to Canada… …the funniest, most absurd and absurd lie since hip-hop Mandela lies.”
