Mel B feels ‘violated’ after WhatsApp scam | Entertainment

[ad_1]

Mel B feels ‘violated’ after her name was used in a WhatsApp scam.

The Spice Girls singer called the police after using her name to send messages in an attempt to lure her family and friends — including other famous faces — into donating cryptocurrency to a “charitable project” they thought she was working on.

The 47-year-old star’s contacts appear to have received a message from Mel’s account, encouraging them to donate to a project aimed at “helping African children die of thirst” through Binance, a website set up to exchange digital currencies.

The messages promise an opportunity to buy bitcoin at a particularly low price in exchange for support for charitable initiatives.

A source told the Sunday People: “Mel didn’t know anything about it and immediately called the police. When she does so much charity work on her own, she feels very sorry that someone would do it and claim it was for charity reasons. Aggression and anger.

“The messages appear to have been written by her, using kisses and emojis, so they are believable.”

People were baffled by the messages, which were sent from the contact name “Scary Spice MelB,” followed by a champagne cork emoji, as the tone seemed believable, but the cryptographic element raised suspicion.

“It was the crypto element that raised the suspicions of some of her celebrity friends, who contacted her to ask if it was her,” the insider explained.

“Mel wasn’t involved. It wasn’t her scene. But she did a lot of charitable work, which made the scam believable.”

It’s unclear if the “Wannabe” anchor’s contacts fell victim to the scam and handed over any money.
