Memphis, Tennessee – Blues mainstays Buddy Guy, Albert Castiglia and John Nemeth won two awards each, while Tommy Castro won the BB King Entertainer of the Year award at the Blues Music Awards in Memphis, Tennessee.
Guitarist and vocalist Gay won the Album of the Year and Contemporary Blues Album categories for “Blues Don’t Lie,” the Memphis-based Blues Foundation said in a news release. Castiglia, who is also a singer and guitarist, won the Blues Rock Artist Award and the top prize in the Blues Rock Album category for “I Got Love”.
Nemeth, a singer and harmonica player, won the traditional blues album category with “May Be The Last Time”. He also won the harmonica instrumentalist category.
For the second year in a row, guitarist and vocalist Castro received an award named after the late blues legend BB King.
Other honorees include bassist Danielle Nicole, traditional blues artist Sue Foley, contemporary blues singer Ruthie Foster and Charlie Musselwhite for the soundtrack album “Mississippi Son.”
Guitarist Christone “Kingfish” Ingram won Best Male Contemporary Blues Vocal Performance for the fourth year in a row.
Tedeschi Trucks won Band of the Year and Tom Hambridge won Song of the Year for “The Blues Don’t Lie”.
The 44th annual Blues Awards took place Thursday at the Reina Sant Convention Center in downtown Memphis.
