Mexico bus accident kills 29, including toddler World News

State Interior Secretary Jesus Romero said it appeared that “lack of skill and fatigue contributed to the accident” after the bus crashed into a 75-foot-deep canyon.

Twenty-nine people, including a one-year-old toddler, were killed when a bus crashed into a 75-foot-deep canyon in southern Mexico, state officials said.

Photos distributed by police showed the bus flipping over.

The bus was traveling from the capital Mexico City to the southern state of Oaxaca when it crashed at around 6:30am local time (1:30pm UK time) on Wednesday.

State Interior Secretary Jesus Romero said the driver lost control of the vehicle in the town of Magdalena Penasco in the Mistca region.

“It appears that lack of skill and fatigue caused the accident,” he told local television.

Mr Romero also said a one-year-old toddler was among the dead.

Officials said 19 people were also injured in the accident, 14 of whom were hospitalized in the town of Tlaxiaco, while five others were airlifted to the state capital, Oaxaca.

The fatal accident happened on a winding and steep road in a remote part of Mexico.

In April, a bus fell off a cliff in western Mexico, killing 18 people and injuring dozens more.
