Multi-Olympic and world champion Michael Johnson will attend the 9th International Society for Physical Activity and Health (ISPAH) Congress in Abu Dhabi this month.
The ISPAH Congress in Abu Dhabi will bring together academics, practitioners, thought leaders and policymakers to discuss collaborative approaches to promoting the adoption of physical activity. The theme of the conference is “Making every step count”.
Johnson, 55, will be one of the panelists during the ISPAH Congress, which will be held at the National Exhibition Centre in Abu Dhabi from 23 to 26 October, to provide hundreds of visitors with insights on the importance and Knowledge of regular physical activity.
The U.S. track legend will also join thousands in the “Billion Step Challenge,” which is designed to encourage individuals to walk in groups and help achieve goals by the end of the convention on Oct. 26.
Considered one of the greatest sprinters in track and field history, Johnson had a stellar career, winning four Olympic gold medals and being an eight-time world gold medalist.
Additionally, Johnson was the only male athlete to win both the 200m and 400m at the 1996 Atlanta Olympics, and the only man to successfully defend his Olympic title in the Sydney 400m four years later.
The Billion Steps Challenge organised by the Abu Dhabi Public Health Centre (ADPHC) with the Ministry of Health, Ministry of Health and Prevention, Ministry of Community Development, Ministry of Culture and Tourism, Abu Dhabi Sports Council, Adnec and fitness app STEPPI.
Matar Al Nuaimi, Director General of the Abu Dhabi Centre for Public Health, said: “Johnson is a household name when it comes to sport and we are delighted that he will be at the ISPAH Congress in Abu Dhabi. Johnson said: “Sports are my passion and regular physical activity and exercise has been instrumental in my track and field career, so I am delighted to be attending the 9th ISPAH Congress in Abu Dhabi later this month.
