Massey chairs the Supercars Commission after leaving the FIA, and this weekend’s series in Australia is in support of F1.
Before becoming Charlie Whiting’s backup in 2018, Masi was Deputy Race Director for Supercars.
Why is there a video of Mercedes & Red Bull dominating F1 so much?
Massey took over as F1 race director following Whiting’s death ahead of the 2019 season.
The Australian held the post until the end of 2021 before being replaced in the ensuing election campaign.
Massie cut for mishandling title decider lewis hamilton and Max Verstappen.
Masi failed to follow the correct rules set out by the Safety Car regarding allowing the car to unwind itself.
As a result, Verstappen took the lead at Hamilton.
The Dutchman would go on to overtake Hamilton for his first F1 title.
Massey initially remained with the FIA despite staying out of the spotlight before deciding to leave the organization to return to his native Australia.
“The FIA confirms that Michael Massey has decided to leave the FIA and move to Australia in order to be closer to his family and to take on new challenges,” a statement at the time said.
