According to a study by the International Data Corporation (IDC) released at Gitex Global 2022 at the Dubai World Trade Center, the Microsoft cloud will generate approximately $39 billion in revenue over four years and create nearly 100,000 jobs in the UAE.
The IDC Infosnapshot UAE ‘Microsoft Cloud Dividend Snapshot’, sponsored by Microsoft, shows that the four-year cumulative total of new Microsoft cloud revenue will reach $39 billion between now and 2026, with 16.6% of the cumulative revenue coming from its Cloud data center regions in Abu Dhabi and Dubai. The revenue will be generated by the Microsoft cloud ecosystem of Microsoft, its partners and cloud customers.
“IDC’s findings confirm that Microsoft’s efforts to support the UAE government, business community, citizens and residents are bearing fruit,” said Naim Yazbeck, general manager of Microsoft UAE. “Since we opened our Abu Dhabi and Dubai data centers in 2019, the trusted, versatile and flexible Microsoft Cloud has been driving investment in the economy, creating jobs, reducing carbon emissions and making progress in sustainability. IDC’s snapshot reflects how our continued efforts will lead to further success for the communities we serve.”

Customers and partners benefiting from Microsoft Cloud in the UAE and beyond come from various sectors of industry and government, including the Abu Dhabi Digital Authority (ADDA), the Ministry of Education, and leading banks such as First Abu Dhabi National Bank and Mashreq Bank, Transport hubs such as DP World and DXB Airport and retail groups such as Majid Al Futtaim Retail.
To support the growth of local businesses, Microsoft and its partner ecosystem will invest approximately US$3.4 billion in services and products for the local economy in the UAE data center region. The new region will also help remove some of the barriers to cloud adoption within the region. The Snapshot report also shows how partner earnings will continue to increase. By 2023, Microsoft partners can expect $6.40 for every dollar of revenue Microsoft generates through its UAE cloud locations. By 2026, this figure is expected to be $8.49.
At the same time, Microsoft, its partners and its customers will add more than 97,000 jobs to the UAE economy through direct employment or indirect job creation in other organisations. This will include an estimated over 29,000 new skills-based IT jobs, highlighting the need for ongoing collaboration on skills programmes between public and private entities to ensure qualified professionals are readily available for these roles.
“Microsoft has long been a trusted partner in the UAE’s growth journey,” added Yazbeck. “We guide individuals, businesses and governments to thrive in a connected world with our products, platforms and data-driven services. We commit to continue investing in infrastructure, research and people to ensure that everyone in the UAE has a prosperous and sustainable s future.”- arab trade news agency
