Middle East ranks third globally in FCCU capacity additions

The Middle East will account for around 17% of global fluid catalytic cracking unit (FCCU) capacity additions between 2022 and 2026, ranking third globally, with Asia topping the list with 48% of new capacity additions.

Leading data firm GlobalData said Iran’s Duqm IV and Oman’s Shahid Ghasem Soleimani are likely to be the two largest contributing refineries in the Middle East, each with a capacity of 75 mbd and expected to be operational by 2025. Analyze the company.

GlobalData’s report, Refinery Fluid Catalytic Cracking Unit (FCCU) Capacity and Capital Expenditure (CapEx) Forecast by Region and Country, Including Details of All Active Plants, Planned and Announced Projects 2022-2026, shows Asia The FCCU is likely to witness a capacity increase of 1,009,000 barrels per day (mbd) by 2026. Of this, 662 mbd of capacity will likely come from new refineries and the rest will come from expansions of existing refineries.

China and India will be the countries with the largest number of new additions to the FCCU

Teja Pappoppula, Oil and Gas Analyst at GlobalData, commented: “By 2026, China and India will account for nearly 85% of the new FCCU capacity added in Asia. An additional 187 mbd of capacity is expected in 2024. Among the new refinery projects, the planned China Yulong refinery could add 141 mbd of capacity in 2024.

GlobalData identified Africa as the second largest contributor to global FCCU capacity additions, accounting for 26% of total capacity additions by 2026.

Nigeria will account for most of the new capacity additions in the region, with three new-build projects in the country expected to add 234 mbd of capacity by 2026. arab trade news agency
