Ministry of Culture and Tourism – Abu Dhabi publishes “Our Sheikh, Our Role Model” in Braille for visually impaired students

The Abu Dhabi Department of Culture and Tourism (DCT Abu Dhabi) has published a new book in Braille for visually impaired students, detailing the inspiring role of leadership in the UAE.

“Our Sheikhs, Our Role Models” was produced by MAKTABA, Abu Dhabi’s DCT Library Administration, in collaboration with the Zayed High Organization of Determined People (ZHO), represented by the Ministry of Care for the Blind.

The book features creative work by students on topics related to the principles and values ​​of Emirati leadership. It covers a variety of topics about national identity, as well as student ideas inspired by the vision, principles, and creativity of leadership.

Through this programme, which is part of the ninth edition of the Big Books and Little Writers Competition, MAKTABA aims to engage visually impaired students and deepen their knowledge of UAE history.

HE Naema Al Mansouri, Member of the National Federation Council and Director of ZHO’s Department of Care for the Blind, said: “The release of the Braille version of ‘Our Chief, Our Example’ will provide more resources for the National Library of the Blind while allowing students to participate in the Big Book Contest. little writers to stimulate their creative writing skills.”

Shaikha Mohamed Almehairi, Director of Library Management, DCT Abu Dhabi, said: “We thank our partners for their invaluable contributions to this initiative to expand reading. Provides children and teens with an ideal platform to unleash their storytelling skills, inspiring their writing and creativity. In this year’s edition, MAKTABA expands its target audience to give visually impaired students more access to books and encourages them to be more Learn more about our country’s history and values.”

MAKTABA will announce the winners of the ninth Big Book Little Writers Contest on February 6, 2022, and then publish the contestants’ stories and creations on the digital library’s website. The winning stories will be compiled and printed into a book to be distributed to libraries and public and private schools across Abu Dhabi.
