The 2022 Mississippi State Fair is fast approaching, and the Department of Agriculture and Commerce (MDAC) announced this year’s entertainment lineup on Thursday.
“I look forward to welcoming the public to the 163rd Mississippi State Fair on Thursday, October 6,” said Agriculture Commissioner Andy Gibson. “The State Fair continues to grow every year with 11 new days of fun-filled family fun.”
Headlines at this year’s show include nationally acclaimed artists Scotty McCreery, BoB, Midnight Star and Bobby Rush.
McCreery, as Season 10 winner American idol, Has become one of country music’s most beloved deep singers. McCreary’s most popular hits include “I Love You This Big,” “See You Tonight,” and his latest hit, “Damn Strait.”
In 2010, BoB shot to fame with the title track “Nothin’ On You,” starring multi-Grammy award-winning artist Bruno Mars. The rapper remains popular with the song “Airplane” featuring Mississippi’s own Hayley Williams.
Midnight Star and Bobby Rush will give audiences a taste of oldies. Midnight Star is best known for their classic hit “Midas Touch,” which was a hit in the town in the 1980s.
Iconic blues artist Bobby Rush will return to the birthplace of American music, making Mississippians feel at home. Rush is a two-time Grammy Award winner and a member of the Blues Hall of Fame and Mississippi Musicians Hall of Fame.
MDAC also announced that it will bring the Great American Wild West Show to the state fair. The show will take place daily at 5:30pm and 7:15pm, with additional performances on Saturday and Sunday at 2:00pm. The show features pig races, a petting zoo, pony rides, a train station, a rattlesnake show and more.
“The Great American Wild West is a dynamic, exciting and fun western show,” explained Gibson. “For more than 25 years, the Ensley family has brought to life the spectacular and exciting spectacle of the American West. Just as the Buffalo Bills brought the ‘Wild West’ to the masses, the Ensley family brought the ‘Great American Wild West’ to life ‘ brought to life.”
Fairgoers will of course have the opportunity to hear plenty of local performances, watch the annual talent show, and take part in the usual carnival rides and games.
The 2022 Mississippi State Fair is scheduled to take place from Thursday, October 6 to Sunday, October 16, and admission is $5 per person and parking is $5 per vehicle. Children six and under are admitted free.
