Mitsubishi Dynamics showcases advanced clean energy and digital technologies at World Future Energy Summit 2022

[ad_1]

Mitsubishi Power Industries (MHI)’s power solutions brand, Mitsubishi Dynamics, showcased its core expertise in delivering reliable, innovative and advanced energy solutions to drive decarbonization and energy transition in the Middle East at this year’s World Future Energy Summit (WFES). ), will be held in Abu Dhabi, UAE from January 17th to 19th.

At the summit, Mitsubishi Electric highlighted the brand’s most successful turbine in the industry – the J-Series air-cooled gas turbine – which boasts a world-class reliability of 99.6% and an efficiency of over 64%. The turbines are capable of operating on mixtures of up to 30% hydrogen and 70% natural gas, which can be increased to 100% hydrogen in the future. Mitsubishi Electric aims to be 100% hydrogen-ready in these large industrial J-class gas turbines by 2025 and then commercialize it. This transitional capability of gas turbines will significantly increase the demand for hydrogen in the region, ultimately driving innovation and lowering costs, and playing a key role in helping countries achieve net-zero emissions.

In 2021, to demonstrate the company’s continued commitment to the power industry in the region, Mitsubishi Electric has expanded its operational footprint in the EMEA region by establishing a Gas Turbine Combined Cycle (GTCC) EMEA business unit in Dubai, UAE. The new business unit focuses on supplying leading JAC gas turbines to utilities in the region.

Currently, Mitsubishi Electric’s JAC-class gas turbines will power the 2.4GW gas-fired Fujairah F3 GTCC power plant being built in the UAE. It will be the largest gas-to-gas GTCC facility in the UAE, enough to power 380,000 homes in the country, play a key role in the country’s power generation sector, and contribute to the GCC’s grid. Fujairah F3 is the first project in the Middle East to use the Advanced M701JAC model turbine. Mitsubishi Electric completed the shipment of the gas turbine in December 2021 and plans to start full commercial operation in 2023.

Dr. Emmanouil Kakaras, Executive Vice President, Next Generation Energy, MHI EMEA, at the WFES Solar and Clean Energy Forum, will join a panel of top power utility executives and experts to discuss the enormous possibilities of hydrogen in accelerating a clean energy future in the region . Given his extensive experience in thermal and clean energy generation, Dr. Kakaras will also address questions about the practical uses and costs of hydrogen, production and demand, carbon capture and storage, and the importance of national policies and guidelines.

“The pace of developing and introducing viable solutions to the global decarbonization challenge is accelerating. Countries are developing net-zero strategies to transition to a safe, cost-effective and environmentally sustainable energy supply, and hydrogen remains the number one contender for this global energy transition. and a powerful enabler, while acting as a catalyst to create a resilient and decarbonized economy. In many ways, hydrogen is the first step towards a brighter future,” said Dr. Kakaras.

Mitsubishi Electric also showcased its decades of operations and maintenance (O&M) and power plant expertise at the summit, showcasing the company’s suite of smart solutions, TOMONITM value. TOMONI leverages advanced controls, artificial intelligence and machine learning, and multi-layered cybersecurity to make energy systems smarter, more profitable and ultimately more autonomous on the way to a sustainable future.

Reflecting the brand’s commitment to achieving a carbon neutral society, Mitsubishi Heavy Industries, the parent company of Mitsubishi Dynamics, recently announced its vision to achieve carbon neutrality in its operations by 2040. MHI has also set a new target to achieve net-zero emissions across its entire value chain by 2040. To achieve this goal, Mitsubishi Electric continues to develop energy solutions and processes to transform hydrogen energy from industrial use to the clean fuel of choice.

“Mitsubishi Electric has pioneered hydrogen fuel combustion technology since 1970, and our recent large-scale and ambitious projects are a testament to our commitment and accumulated expertise in this field. A key part of Mitsubishi Electric’s 2040 goals, according to MHI The goal is to help our customers in the UAE and the wider region bend the cost curve of the energy transition with affordable and reliable solutions. This will be a showcase of how hydrogen can competitively meet clean energy expectations and move us towards carbon neutrality key step forward for society and society,” added Dr Kakaras.

At this year’s WFES 2022, Mitsubishi Dynamics is at booth 6100. For more information about the company and its product portfolio, please visit: https://power.mhi.com/regions/mena/.
