MNC to set up two food processing units in Jebel Ali

Dubai World United Arab Emirates has announced the signing of two new developments with multinational agro-processors to strengthen the food and beverage cluster and capabilities in Jebel Ali, Dubai.

The two facilities are located at Jebel Ali Agri Marina and will be built on a quayside area of ​​nearly 100,000 square meters, of which the company has leased 61,000 square meters. The project consists of an integrated agricultural storage and processing unit.

The new integrated terminal facility will increase year-round supply and production of basic grains and pulses. The concession with Adroit Canada and Al Amir Foods in Jebel Ali Port will ensure a reliable, consistent and secure agricultural value chain within the region, a statement said.

The signing ceremony was attended by Abdulla bin Damithan, CEO and Managing Director of DP World UAE and Jafza; Yogesh Raipuria, CEO of Adroit Canada; Yasin Abdul Majid Ranani, Managing Director of Al Amir Foods; and officials from other entities.

The DP World UAE Food and Agriculture Terminal in Jebel Ali Port positions Dubai as an important gateway for global trade in the food and beverage industry. Backed by double-digit growth in exports, Dubai’s foreign food trade grew by 11% year-on-year to AED57 billion in 2021, compared to AED51.4 billion in 2020.

With an estimated investment of AED 200 million, the facilities will have a unique ecosystem for bulk silo storage and agro-processing. As part of this project, DP World will also invest in the most versatile and technologically advanced automated material handling and transportation system for grains and pulses. The facilities are scheduled to begin operations within two years and will be further expanded in stages.
