Abu Dhabi, February 19, 2023: The 2023 Abu Dhabi Padel Masters World Padel Tour Qualifiers 2023 kicked off at 321 Sports, the premier sports village on Al Khudariyat Island, from 18-20 February.

On the busy first day, 64 men’s teams and 32 women’s teams will be screened out in the qualifiers, and finally they will enter the finals of 4 men’s teams and 4 women’s teams respectively, and advance to the main match of the WPT Masters together with fans around the world. A very active mix of competitive GCC players and top international players is found on 321 Sports’ bespoke state-of-the-art cricket ground. Two knockout stages took place, against the men only, making for some high-profile action. A certain percentage of byes and official forfeitures helped shape the rivalry of later games.

In the wild cards that appeared in the preliminary round of the UAE Wild Card Tournament, the UAE team consisting of Naser Al Ketbi and Mubarak Al Ketbi lost 0-6/1-6 to young Spaniards Jesus Moya and Francisco Guerrero. Elsewhere, Spanish-Argentinian UAE duo Ignacio G Gadea and Martin Noschese lost 2-6/1-6 to experienced two-time WPT Challenge champions Alvara Cepero and Catalan Arnau Ayats.

The presence of the UAE’s rapidly growing padel community is definitely a source of hope. However, UAE padel figures Salem Alhouli and Saeed Al Marri beat Spaniards Sergio Nieto and Juan A Magan, who are ranked 233rd and 277th respectively in the WPT, 1-6/1-6.

The day saw Abdullah Ahmad al-Ahli and Abu Dhabi’s own Iranian-German Navid Fahandez play very well but ended up being beaten 2-6/2-6 Spanish duo Rodrigo Coelo and Pablo Castillo, the latter on the World Padel Tour.

Sunday will see the women’s qualifiers begin, with the men’s championship continuing with the round of 16.

From 21st to 26th February, the Modon Abu Dhabi Padel Master 2023 will see 128 of the world’s top players compete at Bab Al Nojoum on Hudayriyat Island. The padel stars will compete for their share of the €250,000 prize money and the highest score awarded in WPT history.
