Monster Mini Golf is “mini golf on steroids,” according to the owners of Frisco Enterprises. Black lights illuminate the 18-hole course. Pop culture art and local flavors adorn the walls.
Each location includes images from the communities it serves. In terms of Frisco’s location, clients will see the Frisco water tower, local museums and “zombie” sports figures.
“When you come here, everything is monstrosity,” said co-owner Holly Hernandez. “It’s all about monsters, funny and a little weird.”
Hernandez added that part of Monster Mini Golf’s appeal is her husband Brian’s love of horror and monster movies.
A fun family outing in Las Vegas for the Hernandez family changed their careers as they discovered Monster Mini Golf, a unique indoor monster-themed venue with 30 locations across the U.S. and Canada. The couple bought the franchise in 2016. They quit their jobs in February 2020 and plan to open next month. However, the COVID-19 pandemic has delayed the opening until June 2020.
Hernandez said starting the business was one of her best decisions, despite the rocky start.
“This new adventure allows me to stay at home to work and play with my family,” she said.
The venue also includes an arcade, mini bowling balls with grapefruit-sized balls, a virtual reality roller coaster and a laser maze.
The couple’s children take active roles in the business, often serving as golf course DJs, arcade game technicians, party hosts or prize counters.
Hernandez said the business continues to grow through community support.
“The pandemic has brought out a lot of families who want to support family businesses like ours,” she said.
