Morgan Expo brings entertainment and competition to Jacksonville

The Morgan County Fair is just a few days away from Tuesday through July 11 at the Morgan County Fairgrounds. The show will feature live performances, entertainment and plenty of competition.

The show will begin at 8.30am on Tuesday with a ribbon-cutting ceremony. Afterwards, the Morgan County Fair Talent Show will take place in the stands at 5 p.m. at 6 p.m., a youth fun show featuring the youngest aspiring equestrian athletes in Morgan County’s 20 classes.

The 2022 Miss Morgan County, Miss Morgan County and Princess Morgan County will be crowned Tuesday’s event during the 64th annual Morgan County Fair Pageant, which kicks off at 7 p.m. in the stands.


The first livestock judging competition, which includes sheep and rabbits, kicked off Wednesday. It was also the first day of the fairground carnival opening. Building 4-H will host two free events – cake decorating at 1:30pm and gardening at 2:30pm

In the evening, rodeo riders will compete in two races at the racetrack at 7 p.m. Local band The Elderly Brothers will be on stage after the game from 8pm to 11pm.

Gary Hadden, chairman of the fair’s board of directors, advised people to arrive early if they’re coming for the fair’s Friday and Saturday night concerts.

“I think the parking spaces, especially on Saturday, are going to be very full,” he said.

Parking at the fairgrounds will be free as long as there is space on the grounds, Harden said, noting that some businesses near the fairgrounds will also offer parking spaces.

Thursday’s event begins with Pig Judges and 4-H Children’s Day from 1:30 pm to 3 pm. This is also the first day the pavilion is open during the day.6:30pm Speed ​​Horses, 7pm Demolition Derby

A new event at the show, ’90s Nights, will also take place in the pavilion on Thursdays from 6pm to 10pm.The night will begin with a ’90s trivia contest followed by grunge/alt rock cover band The Skanqs from 7pm

On Friday, the livestock review will include goats and poultry. The Master Show Competition at 1pm will select the champion performers in the sheep, pig and beef sectors. After that, an overall winner performer will be selected based on the highest score of all species.

The performer will qualify for the Masters Show Contest at the Illinois State Fair in August.

There will be a three-way split on Friday at 7pm. Soon after, at 7:30 p.m., country singer-songwriter Walker Hayes — best known for his TikTok hit “Fancy Like” — will be on board after opening performance Cooper Alan The stage in the stands.

At 9:30pm, there will be a show at the pavilion at Exit 52.

The final livestock judging competition will be held on Saturday, with cattle judging in the morning. The six-on-six co-ed volleyball tournament—the first of two games—will kick off at 9 a.m. and the winner will receive $200.

Two horseback riding events will also take place throughout the day, one at 10am Western Show and the other at 5pm Open Ranch Show

Saturday’s entertainment will feature country singer-songwriter Cody Johnson in the stands at 7:30 p.m., accompanied by special guest Drew Parker. The Longmeyer Band will be in the pavilion at 8pm.

Sunday will be the last day of the carnival and the pavilion open. It will also be Family Day on 4-H, with activities such as the zoo from 1-4pm, the children’s pedal tractor at 2pm, followed by the Pets and Wheels Parade.

Sunday’s competition will be intense, with a second volleyball match at 9am – a four-on-four match – and a team ropes match at the racecourse at 10am.1 pm

Finally, in the stands, the truck and tractor towing event will take place at 4 p.m.

The 4-H and 4-H Alumni Livestock Auction ends Monday at 1 p.m. at the Livestock Show Ring.

“When the kids showed all their livestock, we got a lot of support from the local community to buy livestock,” Harden said.

Admission to the show is $5, and children under 6 are admitted free.
