Mobile, Alabama (there is nothing) – As the holiday season kicks into high gear, the Mobile County Sheriff’s Department announced that officers will be strictly enforcing the alcoholic beverage ordinance in recreational areas.
The ordinance, in effect since 2013, prohibits the purchase of corkscrews or alcoholic beverages outside of entertainment areas. Beverages must be served in a paper or plastic cup bearing the “LODA” logo or the name of the company where the drink was purchased and must not exceed 16 fluid ounces.
The ordinance also prohibits licensed establishments from having more than one open container between noon and midnight, police said. According to the MPD, alcohol and open containers will not be permitted in any public areas within the downtown business district after midnight.
The Downtown Entertainment District refers to the area located in downtown Mobile as follows:
From Water Street south via Government Street to Dearborn Street, then from Government Street via Dearborn Street to Conti Street, then from Dearborn Street via Conti Street to Washington Avenue;
From Government Street to the east of Water Street to St. Joseph Street;
St. Joseph Street to the north from Water Street to St. Louis Street, then St. Louis Street from St. Joseph Street to Washington Avenue;
West of Washington Avenue, from St. Louis Street to Conti Street.
Officers will also patrol public parking lots and enforce noise ordinances, the MPD said.
