[ad_1]

New York — Two of the city’s biggest landmarks appear to be at odds over expansion plans penn station. this MTA and madison square garden Opinions may differ on how to coexist.

Penn Station’s ongoing renovation became tense because when the city asked the MTA to weigh how it could co-exist with Madison Square Garden, the response came in the form of a bombshell report in which the MTA used the word “incompatible” to describe the garden and Payne.

“We need Madison Square Garden to collaborate and become compatible, to make the arena compatible with the station,” said Jaime Torres-Springer, president of MTA Construction and Development.

Torres Springer showed CBS2 what’s going on around Penn Station, and if the Gardens play, they’ll be wider and taller.

“Our Madison Square Garden is on top of Penn Station. Some of the places it’s being used, like its loading dock, like this taxiway that’s been closed since 9/11, the Eighth Avenue entrance, some places they heat and cool place,” Torres-Springer said.

MSG Entertainment, which owns the garden, said in a statement, “Given how we have worked together throughout the process, we are disappointed by this compatibility report from the MTA and other rail agencies. This is the opinion of a few, not all.” Human opinion stakeholder engagement.”

“Hopefully whatever they do, it doesn’t take away from the charm of the garden,” Vaughn Coleman said.

“It feels a bit historic at this point,” said another, adding that he wanted MSG to stay as it was.

The next step in all of this will come from cities.

The garden’s current permit in the city expires on July 24. Members of the City Planning Commission will hear testimony starting this week. It will then make recommendations to Mayor Eric Adams and the city council.
