MULHAIM – It’s festival season, so if you’re looking for a few nights of old-fashioned fun, join the Mülheim Fireman’s Carnival on Thursday, Friday and Saturday, June 15-17.
The event is held at the fire company grounds directly behind the station and opens daily at 6pm. However, the official start of the weekend is at 7pm tonight when the fire whistle is sounded to signal the start of the annual Mülheim parade.
Hunter Homan, Vice President of MVFC and Chairman of Carnival, wanted to see a lot of community participation and emphasized the importance of the event.
“The carnival itself brings the community together, and it helps raise money for the fire companies to improve themselves,” he said. “A lot of the money raised goes toward buying new equipment and gear that we use every day. Proceeds also pay for the truck’s insurance.”
This year’s entertainment program has something for everyone, with Qwik Rock DJ Ricky LaPean on Thursday night, DJ Ted Homan on Friday and popular ’80s tribute band Giants of Science on Saturday.
There will be a grand prize draw every night and 100 tickets will be drawn on Saturday night.
The nostalgic part of carnival for all ages is the games. Some of the most popular games are Fish Game, Duck Pond, Soda Ring Toss, Bounce House, Poker Stand, Balloon Darts, Money Tree and everyone’s favorite – Dime Ball Court.
No Mardi Gras in central Pennsylvania would be complete without a tractor tow, and the Millheim Fire Company is hosting twice over Mardi Gras weekend.Garden tractor pulls are Saturday mornings, check in at 9am, pull at 10am
Visitors are reminded of the changes to the Pedal Rally schedule for children aged 3 to 9 this year.Kids Pedal Rally will be held Friday night, 6pm registration, 7pm rally
Most people attend their local carnival to visit old friends and eat good food. The Mülheim Carnival is a bit of both.
As attendees catch up with old friends at one of the benches in front of the main stage, they can sample some delicious fair food. The venue will be filled with savory, fried and sweet treats such as hot sausage sandwiches, cheesesteaks, french fries, funnel cakes, pizza, fried Oreos, hamburgers and hot dogs, and fresh-squeezed lemonade.
Starting at 10pm on Saturday night, there will be one of the biggest fundraisers of the carnival – the Cake Auction.
This event comes rain or shine.
