‘pride and Prejudice’
With six actors in more than 15 roles, the New York-based Aquila Theatre tour is based on Jane Austen’s “pride and Prejudice,” This 7 p.m. performance at the Walton Arts Center in Fayetteville, 495 W. Violinist Alexander Markov played several shorter works for 19th century Romantic violin, as well as his own works for electronic violin and orchestra, with Conway Symphony Orchestra and conductor Israel Getzov will open the orchestra’s 38th season on Sunday at 4 p.m. at the Reynolds Hall at the University of Central Arkansas at 201 Donaghey Ave., Conway.
Some of Markov’s shows include “Introduction and Rondo Capriccioso” by Camille Saint-Saens; “Meditation” in “Thais” by Jules Massenet; the third part of “Summer” in Antonio Vivaldi’s “Four Seasons” Movements “Presto”; “Zigeunerweisen” by Pablo de Sarasate; and excerpts from Markov’s “Caesar,” featuring his golden electric violin.
The orchestra will kick off the concert with Nikolai Rimsky-Korsakov’s adaptation of Modest Mussorgsky’s “Night on the Bald Mountain”, with Ludwig Van Beethoven’s “Symphony No. 5 in C minor”, op.67 ends.

Markov is part of UCA’s Faculty of Arts, Humanities and Social Sciences artist-in-residence programme, which will also include a recital at the Faculty’s Snow Fine Arts Recital Hall on Saturday at 7:30pm.
Art: “American Dirge”
“American Dirge in Black and White II: The Works of Madey Taylor” 18 mixed media works by Taylor, who now resides in Lake Village, Memphis, has a studio in Fort Dodge, Iowa, and is today at the Southeastern Arkansas Arts and Science Center at 701 S. Main William H. Kennedy Jr. Gallery Opening St., Pine Bluff. Taylor will be presenting receptions and artist talks on Fridays from 5-7pm.
The exhibit, which runs through February 24, is based on work by Taylor created in 2018; accompanying the artwork, according to the press release, is a work of poetry detailing the pain of black people being brought by boats and sold into slavery and suffering, which are related to biblical prophecy. Support for the exhibition comes from grants from the Arkansas Humanities Council and the National Endowment for the Humanities. Admission to lectures and galleries is free. Gallery hours are 10am-5pm Tuesday-Friday and 10am-4pm Saturday.
