RICHMOND, Va. (WRIC) – Richmond Speedway is the place to be on Sunday afternoons as the stands for the NASCAR Cup Series Federal Auto Parts 400 race are packed with NASCAR fans from all over the country and provide a full A full day of activity for the family.
With doors open at noon, fans enjoyed an intense cornhole game in the tailgate parking lot, listened to live music outside the stadium and watched a thrilling game at 3 o’clock.
“It was overwhelmingly exciting. Seeing the corn pits and a lot of tailgating, I wish I knew about some of them, but maybe next time I’ll grab them,” said first-time NASCAR fan Michelle Jones .
After four hundred laps, the race was fierce. Kevin Harvick scored his fourth career win at Richmond Speedway and his second straight win in the 2022 NASCAR Cup Series.
“It’s been a while since I came to Victory Lane…it’s in a different place,” Harwick said. “My team made some big tweaks today and did a great job on the pit road. It’s just all the little details and speed in the car.”
NASCAR usually comes to Richmond Speedway during the fall playoffs on Saturday night. Richmond Speedway has announced a new president, Lori Varan, since the last race in April. The team wanted families and children to be able to attend, so Sunday’s race took place in the afternoon and Richmond fans showed their support.
“It’s amazing. So many people here! It’s great to meet everyone and it’s great for Richmond as well. It’s amazing for Richmond to see all the diversity here,” Jones said .
