Natalie Emmanuel has been ‘craving’ to star in a horror movie.
The 33-year-old actress starred in The Invitation, a new gothic horror film, something Natalie admits she’s been passionate about for years.
She shared, “I’ve always been very interested in trying out all types of games. It’s something I’ve never done before and I’m very eager to try it.”
The film was filmed in Budapest, and Natalie admits she found it an exhausting experience.
She told Harper’s Bazaar magazine: “I mean, actually, it’s very, very tiring to play pure horror and trauma. It’s a useful feeling, though, because while you feel like there’s nothing left; you have to keep trying. When You are a character trying to survive the horror!”
The Invitation centers on issues of power structures and oppression, and Natalie has also enjoyed working with director Jessica M. Thompson.
The actress felt that she too could relate to the film and its themes.
Game of Thrones star Natalie shared: “I was fascinated by how the script looked at race, power and class and how all those things intersect.
“These are people at the top of the power structure, very wealthy, white, and mostly male. Evie is a biracial working-class woman, and she’s immediately put in a sort of uncomfortable situation.
“For me, as a woman of color, she also didn’t come from wealth, and I immediately connected to that and used the way I navigated spaces that weren’t necessarily made or designed for me to get into that role.”
