National Geographic Abu Dhabi captures Modon Properties’ record-breaking demolition of Mina Plaza in an exclusive behind-the-scenes feature

National Geographic Abu Dhabi is about to release “Demolition of Mina Square”, A new feature that records record-breaking demolition in Mina Zayed area of ​​Abu Dhabi. The documentary captured exclusive behind-the-scenes footage of controlled demolition, paving the way for a new development project as part of Abu Dhabi’s master plan.

From drilling 18,000 holes to place explosives, to various simulations and test explosions to ensure minimal impact, the audience will learn about all phases of the groundbreaking project. Before the finale, the audience will also witness the final moments and final dismantling of the tower. It took a whole year of planning, preparation and testing, and the demolition work was completed within 10 seconds.

The documentary dates back to 1972 and also records the history of the Minazayed port, named after the late Sheikh Zayed bin Sultan Al Nahyan, the founding father of the UAE. While booming as a maritime trade center, Mina Zayed has also become a market area and popular residence for the city’s residents, who are looking for open-air markets distributed among many single-storey warehouses.

Demolition is part of a comprehensive plan to redevelop key areas of the port. ModonProperties was commissioned by the Ministry of Municipality and Transportation to establish a new tourist landmark in the area and transform it into one of Abu Dhabi’s most famous destinations.

Controlled demolition took place in November 2020, and Modon Properties won the Guinness World Records title for “the tallest building demolished using explosives (controlled demolition)”. Controlled demolition is considered one of the safest demolition techniques in the world.
