The Negev Forum Steering Committee and Working Group meeting opened yesterday (Monday) in Abu Dhabi. The meeting was attended by high-level delegations from six member states: the United Arab Emirates, Bahrain, Egypt, Morocco, the United States and Israel.
This is the third meeting of the Negev Forum Steering Committee — the first in Bahrain in June 2022, and the second virtually in October 2022 — and the first physical meeting of the working group.
The Israeli delegation, led by Director-General of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs Aron Ushpiz, included senior representatives from the ministries of agriculture, health, defense, intelligence, tourism, energy, education, economy, as well as the Water Authority and the National Security Council.
“We first had a summit of our six foreign ministers in Sdeh Boker, and then we started steering Committee The meeting that we attended with our delegation, about 40 people attended. Today, more than 150 representatives of our civil servants gathered here in Abu Dhabi to put into practice the principles we set out in the Negev Forum Regional Cooperation Framework Document adopted by the Steering Committee on 10 November 2022,” said Director of Israel Foreign Minister Aron Ushpiz.
During the meeting, delegations will prepare for the Negev Forum foreign ministers’ summit, which is expected to take place in Morocco in the coming months. Its working group will also draw up a list of projects in the six areas it is responsible for, which will be presented to the Negev Forum foreign ministers at its next meeting. These areas are health, regional security, education and tolerance, water and food security, tourism and energy.
