Nepal helicopter carrying six crashes, including five Mexican citizens World News

Manang Air helicopter missing nearby Nepal’s Mount Everest crashed in Ranjula, Likupik Rural Municipality, Solukhub District, with six people on board.Tuesday. Initial media reports indicated that all foreigners on board were Mexicans.

The Kathmandu Post reported that the area is located between Lukla and Faplu. The media quoted Nwang Lhakpa Sherpa, deputy chairman of the rural municipality, as saying that locals had informed that the helicopter was found crashed in Chihandanda, Lamjura, Bhakanje village.

“The helicopter was en route from Solukhumbu to Kathmandu and lost contact with the control tower around 10 am,” said information officer Gyanendra Bhul.

The helicopter, with call sign 9NMV, separated from radar at 10:12 am local time. There were five foreigners on board the missing helicopter.

“…total number of people on board: 6 (5 passengers + 1 captain). Altitude Air helicopter departed from Kathmandu for search and rescue,” Nepal Civil Aviation Authority tweeted.

The helicopter, operated by Kathmandu-based private company Manan Airlines, was carrying five foreign tourists from the Solu Khumbu region in the mountains of eastern Nepal to the capital Kathmandu.

The helicopter was piloted by Senior Captain Chet Gurung, himalaya times The report quoted sources from Kathmandu’s Tribhuvan International Airport as saying.

Established in 1997, Manang Air is a Kathmandu-based helicopter airline. The company has been operating helicopters for commercial air transport within Nepal under the regulation of the Civil Aviation Authority of Nepal.
