Netanyahu gets long-awaited UAE invitation to COP 28

Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu and President Isaac Herzog were invited on Monday to the United Nations Climate Change Conference (COP28) in Dubai in November and December.

Formal invitation by united arab emirates Ambassador to Israel Mohamed Mahmoud Al Khaja met with Netanyahu at his Jerusalem office. The letter was signed by UAE President Sheikh Mohamed bin Zayed Al Nahyan and UAE Vice President and Prime Minister Sheikh Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum.

COP 28 will open on November 30 and is expected to be attended by the prime minister or president and at least five other senior ministers. There will also be several days focused on health, water, food security, energy and trade, with Israeli ministers participating.

Israeli companies expected to participate

In addition, a delegation of around 100 Israeli companies is expected to participate in COP 28 through the Israel Export Association.Former Israeli Prime Minister Naftali Bennett pledged at COP 26 in Glasgow in November 2021 that Israel would “lead the way in our efforts [in]Save our world by harnessing its intelligence to develop climate technologies”.

According to the PLANETech Climate Challenge Map, 637 companies in Israel have been identified as climate technology startups and growth companies in 2021.

Netanyahu signed abraham agreement On the White House lawn in November 2020, but never made the much-anticipated visit. He had planned to visit shortly after his government was sworn in last year, but the trip was postponed.

first official visit Bennett visited the UAE following the signing of the agreement in December 2021, followed by President Isaac Herzog the following month.
