Race organiser Luca Onofrio of RCS Sports and Events is excited about the potential of the 42.2km route.

“While previous years, runners were required to complete two loops, this year it’s a complete run across major landmarks across the city to encourage runners to reach record times,” Onofrio said Thursday at the Adnoc Business Center. said at the unveiling ceremony of the route.

“The hardest part of the race is at km 25-28, and that’s where we put runners through areas or landscapes they haven’t encountered before.

“This can give runners an extra boost of speed, and then we want the crowd to encourage them and push them as they get to the finish along the Corniche.”

Last year, Kenyan duo Titus Ekiru and Judith Jeptum Korir were the winners of the Classic.

Starting in front of Adnoc’s headquarters, contestants will pass by many of the city’s most recognizable landmarks, including the Majesty’s Palace, Al Bateen Palace, Sheikh Zayed Grand Mosque, Qasr Al Hosn and Abu Dhabi World Trade Centre.

The complete marathon distance finish line is set at the Adnoc campus, where a racing village will be established.

The sprint race will start in front of the National Tower on the Corniche and finish on Al Marsa Street, while the 10km course will also finish at the Adnoc campus.

Aref Al Awani, secretary general of the Abu Dhabi Sports Council, said the changes to the event will ensure participants enjoy matchdays more than ever.

“The Adnoc Abu Dhabi Marathon is already a very successful and much-loved event on the UAE sports calendar,” he said.

“After evaluating our community through an extensive participant outreach survey, we’ve listened, taken action, and can now look forward to bigger and better events for all families, and community-for-community events.”

Last year’s marathon drew more than 12,000 participants of all ages and abilities, and this time more than 20,000 are expected.

“The changes to this year’s Adnoc Abu Dhabi Marathon bring us another step forward in our journey towards creating the best marathon experience for our Abu Dhabi and UAE communities,” said Dr Saif Al Nasseri, Director of Human Capital, Adnoc Group.

“Through close consultation with these communities, we are confident that this December’s new Adnoc Abu Dhabi Marathon, with an expected 20,000 runners, will continue to have the local community at its core.”

Annual community events – including marathons and marathon relays, 10km routes, and 5km and 2.5km fun runs – in a “You Speak, We Listen” survey commissioned by event organizers After that, a series of new enhancements will be introduced.

Registration for Adnoc Abu Dhabi Marathon 2022 and its corresponding race distances, as well as the two remaining Race Series Edition events, is open via the official website: https://www.adnocabudhabimarathon.com.
