(Trenton, NJ) – “Photo Show Live,” September 29th-1st at the Mercer County Community College (MCCC) James Kerney Campus at 137 North Broad Street, Trenton The Gallery (JKCG) holds a new lunchtime photography talk: 00 pm.This month, JKC Gallery Director Michael Chovan-Dalton introduces Wendy Ewaldan artist who has worked with children, families and teachers around the world for over 40 years. During this session, Ewald and Chovan-Dalton will discuss Ewald’s book The Devil Is Leaving His Cave and Portraits and Dreams, as well as Ewald’s film Portraits and Dreams, which will air on PBS and will Screening at JKC Gallery.
Chovan-Dalton said: “Wendy Ewald will be joining Photo Show Live remotely when I’m at the JKC Gallery. I look forward to discussing the details of her book and the approach behind her filmmaking. She has an amazing story that brings her to the United States and around the world.”
Ewald’s film “Portraits and Dreams” in the PBS documentary series POV and pov.org 2020. “Portraits and Dreams: Photographs and Stories of Appalachian Children”, now republished by MACK (UK), is the result of a unique creative collaboration between Ewald and the students she taught at three primary schools in Letcher County, 1970s of Kentucky. Tasked with finding authentic ways to represent the lives of these children, she gave each child a camera and then interviewed them about their childhood in the mountains.The film revisits the photos the students took, their work as visionary photographers, and their lives since then.
