The UAE Federal Authority for Identity, Citizenship, Customs and Port Security (ICP) has launched its “Advanced Services System”. These services include the issuance of a new generation of UAE passports and the trial of updated visa and entry clearance schemes.

The new system is currently being piloted, and actual implementation will begin on October 3rd.

The UAE Cabinet approved the implementing regulations of the federal decree in April this year. The main terms include:

— Golden Visa: Significant changes have been made to the Golden Residency Program to simplify eligibility criteria and expand beneficiary categories. This 10-year long-term residency is awarded to investors, entrepreneurs, outstanding talents, scientists and professionals, outstanding students and graduates, humanitarian pioneers and frontline heroes.

The amendments allow Golden Residency holders to sponsor their family members, including spouses and children, regardless of their age. They can also sponsor any number of support service (domestic) workers. Also, their visas will remain valid no matter how long they stay outside the UAE.

— Green visa: A new 5-year residency track has been introduced to attract talent, skilled professionals, freelancers, investors and entrepreneurs. They get a longer, flexible grace period to stay in the country for up to six months after their permit is cancelled or expires. They can easily obtain residence permits for family members, including spouses, children and first-degree relatives.

The new system provides more benefits for family members. The age of children who can be sponsored has been raised to 25 (previously 18) and there is no age limit for unmarried daughters. Children of determination, regardless of their age, receive a residence permit.
