New York City Mayor Eric Adams Speaks On Having Drill Music Pulled From Social Media Due To Violence

[ad_1]

New York City Mayor Eric Adams is working on tackling the violence in the city, and while doing so one of the methods he is working towards, is having drill music pulled from social media.

According to Billboardon Friday, during a press conferenceMayor Adams spoke about the music and the connections it has to violence, as he urged social media platforms to pull the music. He said, “I had no idea what drill rapping was, but I called my son and he sent me some videos , and it is alarming. We are going to pull together the social media companies and sit down with them and tell them that you have a civic and corporate responsibility.”

He also spoke about Trump being banned from social media last year after the Capitol riots and continued, “We pulled Trump off Twitter because of what he was spewing. Yet we are allowing music, displaying of guns, violence, we’re allowing it to stay on these sites.”

Billboard reports that Mayor Adams also mentioned a conversation with “very top known” rappers about the matter is being organized. No particular names were mentioned, nor was a time frame for when the meeting would happen.

Adams’ call to have the music pulled from social media comes after two up-and-coming rappers were recently killed in New York City.

On February 3rd, Tahjay Dobson, who was known as Tdott Woo, was shot outside of his home in Brooklyn.

Bronx rapper Jayquan McKenley, known as Chii Wvttz, was shot and killed while leaving a recording studio in Brooklyn.

Mayor Adams, who is a Brooklyn native, spoke about Jayquan’s passing and said, “I’m sorry we betrayed him and so many others like him, but you have my word as your mayor that I will be looking out for the thousands of other Jayquans in our city because I was once a Jayquan, too.”
