On Friday, he said, “Absolute apology, inappropriate comment, shouldn’t be used, someone asked me a question with that comment and played with that word, responded in that comment. Apparently comment that shouldn’t be used, I apologise not only to the people who heard it, but to the people of New York because they should have expected more from me and it was inappropriate.”

Mayor Adams also clarified that his comments expressed his struggle against racism. “My fight, you know, my fight in the police department is to fight racism throughout my journey, and I take it seriously,” he added.

Patrick J. Lynch, president of the Police Benevolent Association (PBA), issued a statement after the video resurfaced, saying: “Every time a controversial police video appears online, we demand fairness. , instead of rushing to provoke. We’re going to apply the same standard here. We’ve spoken to Mayor Adams about this video. We’ve spent too much time together in hospital emergency rooms over the past few weeks, while We’ve been working together for decades before that. A few seconds of video won’t define our relationship. We have a lot of work to do to support our members on the streets.”

Thomas Lopez-Pierre, who shot the video and recently posted it, shared that he posted it in support of Adams. “Eric Adams is a big boy, he’s a politician who cares about criticism, he’s a mayor,” Lopez said.

Asked if he thought the comments were inappropriate during the recording, Lopez said: “Uh, no, the candidate at the time, the mayor now, has publicly committed to taking 30 percent of the multibillion-dollar city contracts, spending In Black and Hispanic and Asian women own businesses. That’s why I voted for him.”
