Nicolas Cage will star in “Dreamland”.
Deadline reports that the “unbearably talented” actor has signed on to star in the upcoming comedy, which will be directed by “self-loathing” filmmaker Christopher Bogley.
The director will also write the script, while Ari Aster and Lars Knudsen will produce under their Square Peg banner with A24 – who also financed the film – Jacon Jaffke and Tyler Camellone.
Aside from being described as a comedy, plot details of the film have also been kept under wraps.
Meanwhile, Nicholas recently admitted he’s “excited” to land more comedic roles recently after playing a version of himself in “The Unbearable Weight of Genius” and the upcoming “Rayfield.”
However, the 58-year-old actor is also keen to spread his wings further and will jump at the chance to star in a musical.
He said: “Now, I’m so glad this comedy is back on the menu. Omg, it hasn’t been around for 15 years. Glad I’ve had the opportunity to do more comedy.
“But I’ve never done a musical. That would be something I’m curious about.”
However, the “Con Air” star mostly just wants to keep making indie dramas.
He added: “I just want to keep going to the roots of indie drama. That’s my real passion, films like ‘Pig,’ ‘Leaving Vegas’ or ‘Joe.’ ‘Bring Out The Dead’ — I saw it recently. I have to say it’s probably the best movie I’ve ever made.”
But the “Moonlight” star’s coveted role is Captain Nemo, played by Jules Verne.
“I wanted to play Jules Verne’s Captain Nemo because of the character’s love of the sea that I share with him,” he said.
